Book Reviews

100 Years Of Adventure And Discovery

By The National Geographic Society

This book is completely awesome!!  There is nothing bad about this book.  When I really thought about it, there actually is a real story to it.  The story of how The National Geographic Society actually formed.  It gave me mucho info on a lot of pretty amazing things.  It's like all of the Issues of the magazine all packed into one book.  It made me get very interested in bird watching.  It was very inspirational to me.  Highly recommended.

100 Things You Should Know About Knights & Castles

By Jane Walker

Awesome Illustrations!  Excellent resource.  I thought it was very interesting because it told you about the defenses of a medieval castle/fortress.  Stories about a knight's life were very well written.  Thought it might be good for readers on the younger side because it has wonderful, bold, and big text.  A down-right good book.  Not reccommended read right before bedtime.

A Dangerous Path

By Erin Hunter

'Bout cats.  I personally thought it was kind of itsy-bitsy semi-violent.  Has a good story line, but by being the last in the series, it's kind of a formula (if you know what I mean).  I would suggest it for readers from age seven and up.  Their are a lot of moments in the book submerged in battle (witch to me, is pretty cool).  The book has a lot of good detail which is sometimes good, but sometimes bad too.  Good book to read on a boring airplane ride or things like that.

A Hero For Wondla

By Tony Diterlizzi

Great book!  Absolutely nothing bad at all about this book.  Very complex characters and creatures (which is good).  Their are some violent parts, but the are not super gruesome.  Older readers should enjoy this more than younger ones.  Illustrations are simply superb.  No story lines are dropped in this book.  Diterlizzi does not 'dumb' the story up just because the people that are reading it are children.  Good for kids that have read some of J.R.R Tolkien's books.

A Pizza The Size Of The Sun

By Jack Prelutsky

This book is a wonderful book of poetry.  Great book to read before turning out the light in your bedroom.  In fact, I read some poems from the book before I go to bed myself!  All of the poems bounce along like a rubber ball and are all goofy yet serious.  I like how he makes up a lot of words witch that perfectly into the poem.  Their are a lot of 'concrete poems' (it's a kind of poem) in the book.  Very creative and good for young children.

Bridge To Terabithia

By Katherine Paterson

Loved it!   One of the best books I've ever read.  Just the whole idea of the story brings me joy.  Jessie is such a strong main character.  He has problems (in-human for anybody to not.) but ends knowing how to deal.   To me,  the idea of a good story is for the protagonist  to be different than he was in the beginning (but that's just me).

Good for readers who have a little more experience with stores about loss.

Bud, Not Buddy

By Christopher Paul Curtis

Very humorous  and very funny.  It has excellent narration.  Reading this book made me bump up my jokes a level (it worked!).  I like how Bud deals with big changes and deals with them like they're nothing.  I like character's that have  good will-power.  Not that violent but they're are some scary parts in it.  This book is definently for kids who know what racial segregation and the depression are.
